| Abstract | The capacity of a MIMO channel will be degraded when the sub channels of the antenna array are correlated. A solution to this problem is proposed which is based on cooperative wireless communication systems. The nodes present in the cooperative system are chosen as relays either using random selection or smart selection scheme in order to improve the channel capacity. The two relay selection schemes are elaborated and the results show that the smart selection scheme which is based on the eigenvalues of the channel matrix promises a better channel capacity than random selection scheme in a multiple input multiple output system using spatial multiplexing.
