| Abstract | The presence of a modulated laser field can induce crystallization of a colloidal liquid where the particles interact via screened Coulomb repulsion. This phenomenon is called laser-induced freezing (LIF). In this paper, we present experimental results on LIF which were performed under controlled particle interaction potentials. This was achieved by defined ion concentration conditions during our experiments. We observed distorted and almost perfect hexagonal structures as well as a modulated liquid as a function of the periodicity of the modulated laser field. |
