| Abstract | D-dimer antigen in biological samples consists of fibrin fragment D-dimer and a large array of other crosslinked fibrin derivatives. D-Dimer assays are based on monoclonal antibodies specifically reacting with conformational epitopes exclusively generated by covalent linking of adjacent D-domains by factor XIIIa within the fibrin polymer. Despite the differences in monoclonal antibodies, assay technology, and calibration material, D-dimer assays display a high degree of correlation, but the numerical results vary considerably, especially at higher concentration levels of D-dimer antigen. |
