| Abstract | The article refers to the concept of translation as a game. The author assumes that translation is not a simple sum of unrelated decisions that can be considered in isolation from one another, but is a comprehensive, multi-faceted creation, a result of a project-based-action. In order to take this complexity into account in the assessment of a translation, it is postulated to use the so-called splice evaluation, based on the category of difference and an assessment of strategy. Therefore, a strategic error is treated as a primary type of error in the translation. The paper poses a question about the possibility of optimizing translation referring to the game tree. Based on examples from the translation of the novel Die Rättin by Günter Grass, how translation can be evaluated and optimized is illustrated. |
