Abstract	The implications of the new higher education cycle structure for the Library and Information Science LIS) instruction in Spain is analysed. The new situation is compared with the old one, and some trends, suggestions and guidelines are proposed for the future. The option chosen in the University of Zaragoza—oriented toward research and instruction on information and documentation units and services management—is described, explained and contextualized in a landscape mastered by posgraduate and doctoral studies oriented toward digital information—doubtless, the hottest topic today—and a solid but not so numerous group of studies on Archival Science.
