| Abstract | espanolObjetivos: El proposito de este estudio fue determinar el grado de estres autopercibido por los estudiantes de primer ano de Medicina de la Universidad de Concepcion del ano 2002, frente a diferentes estresores generales y especificos relacionados con las asignaturas, y conocer las estrategias de afrontamiento utilizadas y su grado de efectividad. Material y metodo: Se aplico un cuestionario tipo Likert validado con estudiantes de primer ano de Medicina de anos anteriores, estructurado con 22 items de estresores generales agrupados en 5 subescalas o factores y 18 items de estresores especificos pertinentes a las asignaturas, agrupados en 3 subescalas o factores. Ademas se incluyo 16 Items de estrategias de afrontamiento. Resultados: Fueron percibidos como factores estresantes: lo que acontece en el mundo (38.4%), la situacion personal-afectiva (54.7%), aspectos biologicos-salud (21.0%), la situacion en el hogar (64.0%) y el quehacer academico en general (37.9%). En relacion a los factores especificos por asignaturas los estudiantes solo percibieron estres en Biologia (48.8%) y Anatomia (46.5%). En relacion a las estrategias de afrontamiento, la mayoria de los estudiantes opinaron utilizar 6 estrategias con alto grado de efectividad, 2 estrategias con bajo uso y efectividad y 6 con uso y efectividad moderadas. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre estresores generales, especificos y genero. Conclusiones: Se comprueba que al inicio de su carrera un elevado numero de estudiantes de medicina reconoce la influencia de estresores generales, en especial dependientes del hogar y de su situacion afectiva personal, como tambien originados en el ambiente academico en determinadas asignaturas. Estos antecedentes debieran promover acciones orientadas a su adecuada correccion. EnglishObjectives: the purpose of this research was to determine the degree of self perceived stress in first year Medicine students from the University of Concepcion, in relation to different general and specific stressors related with their subjects and to recognize facing strategies used and their degree of efficacy. Method: a Likert type questionnaire was administered, previously validated in first year Medicine students from previous years. It was structured with 22 general stressors items, grouped in 5 subscales or factors and 18 specific stressors items related to subjects, grouped in 3 subscales or factors. 16 items of facing strategies were also included. Results: Perceived as stressing factors were: what takes place in the World (38.4%), personal affective situation (54.7%), biological aspects-health (21.0%), home situation (64.0%) and general academic work (37.9%). In relation to specific factors by subjects, students only perceived stress in Biology (48.8%) and Anatomy (46.5%). In relation to facing strategies, most of the students thought that they used 6 strategies with high grade of efficacy, 2 with low use and efficacy and 6 with moderate use and efficacy. No significant differences between general and specific stressors and gender were found. Conclusions: It is verified that at the beginning of their career a high number of Medicine students recognize the influence of general stressors, specially depending on home and personal personal affective situation, as well as originated in academia environment in specific subjects. This information should promote actions oriented to its appropriate correction. |
