| Abstract | Diazotrophic bacteria of the genera Azospirillum and Herbaspirillum promote vegetation growth of grasses like corn and wheat by increasing the absorption surface of roots, plant hormone production and nitrogen fixation. The objective of this work was to evaluate the seed germination and seedling early growth of wheat and corn affected by inoculation with A. brasilense and H. seropedicae, through germination and the first count, number of roots and dry weight of shoot and root. Two experiments were carried out, the first with corn seeds and the second with wheat seeds wich were evaluated in three wheat cultivars (CD150, CD104 and CD108) and three corn hybrids (30F53, 30F35 and 30R50) both inoculated with five strains of Azospirillum brasilense (ABV5, ABV6, HM53, IC26 and SFO), a strain of Herbaspirillum seropedicae (SMR1), combinations of these strains (SMR1+ABV5, SMR1+ABV6, SMR1+HM53, SMR1+SFO, SMR1+IC26) and the control treatment without inoculation, forming a completely randomized design in a factorial 3 x 12 for each experiment (culture). Inoculation affects seed germination and early growth of seedlings of wheat and corn, with obvious benefits of joint inoculation of strains of A. brasilense and H. seropedicae. |
