Abstract	Objective: To determine the level of knowledge mothers have about nutrition in the school years of the first and second grades of the elementary level of the Enrique Milla Ochoa Educational Institution, Los Olivos 2016. Material and methods: Quantitative and cross-sectional descriptive study. The population was 234 mothers and the sample of 125 mothers of schoolchildren of first and second grades the elementary level, using simple random sampling. After an informed consent, the survey was applied to the mothers of schoolchildren of such institution, considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Each mother was evaluated with the NICMAES instrument. Results: The medium level of knowledge prevailed among mothers with a total of 90 mothers (72%), followed by mothers with a high level of knowledge with 27 mothers (21.6%) and finally mothers with a low level of knowledge, which are 8 (6.4%). According to dimensions, in the general aspects dimension it was medium with 86 mothers (68.8%), nutritional requirements dimension was high with 70 mothers (56%), food quantity dimension was low with 69 mothers (55.2%) and frequency of food was medium with 59 mothers (47.2%). Conclusions: In the study, the medium level of knowledge prevailed among mothers of schoolchildren of first and second grades the elementary level.
