| Abstract | Power system optimization is an important organ of power system planning without which the modern power system operation and control is impossible. This paper proposes a new integrated GA-PSO-TS algorithm for the solution of short term hydro thermal scheduling problem with prohibited operating zones. The proposed algorithm integrates the natural selection and genetics of genetic algorithm with the principles of swarm intelligence and tabu search so that the nonlinear solution space of the hydrothermal scheduling problem can be explored completely. The local search operators such as Flip-1 and Flip-2 are introduced to handle the discontinuities in the solution space. The comparison of results proves that the proposed GA-PSO-TS algorithm is capable of obtaining quality solutions efficiently at quick execution time. In order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in solving short-term hydrothermal scheduling problem, there are two test systems have been considered in which the first test case has one hydro and one thermal unit, results were obtained for a time schedule of six 12-hour intervals. The second test case which has three thermal and one hydro unit, the proposed algorithm has been applied for the solution of hydrothermal scheduling by considering the prohibited operating zones. The results obtained by the proposed algorithm are compared with other algorithms and they demonstrate that the proposed method is practical and valid for real time applications. |
