| Abstract | As we described in Chapter 1, liquid crystalline phases are exhibited by organic compounds whose molecules have shape anisotropy. Compounds with molecules having two different shapes, viz, rod-like (R) and disc-like (D) have been studied in great detail in the past [1, 2]. The recently discovered liquid crystals (LCs) made of banana-shaped or bent-core (BC) molecules are being presently studied extensively [9, 33].
