| Abstract | O presente artigo apresenta reflexoes sobre as transformacoes ocorridas no decorrer das ultimas decadas, nas mesorregioes Sudoeste Rio-Grandense e Noroeste Rio-Grandense. Metodologicamente, realizou-se revisao bibliografica, sistematizacao e tabulacao de um vasto conjunto de dados secundarios. Identificou-se que os padroes produtivos e de distribuicao da terra, claramente diferenciados, interferem nos modelos de desenvolvimento socioeconomico das suas respectivas regioes. Os resultados tambem tendem a indicar que o padrao de ocupacao do espaco agrario teve um papel historico importante na conformacao socioeconomica das regioes, mas que, no periodo recente, com a urbanizacao e a intervencao das politicas publicas, ha uma tendencia a homogeneizacao dos indicadores, que obedecem mais a situacao macroeconomica do Pais e aos programas de politicas sociais que aos determinantes da estrutura agraria. Methodologically, besides conducting a literature review, the authors systematized and tabulated a large set of secondary data. It was found that the patterns of production and land distribution, which are clearly differentiated, interfere with the socioeconomic development models of their respective regions. The results also tend to indicate that the pattern of agrarian space occupation had an important historical role in the socioeconomic conformation of the regions and that, in recent years, with urbanization and the intervention of public policies, there has been a tendency towards the homogenization of indicators, which follow more the macroeconomic situation of the country and the social policy programs than the determinants of the agrarian structure.
