| Abstract | This work values how the new approaches of Latin literary historiography will condition the opinion hold by some authors who have studied at the University or have read handbooks, such as Perez Galdos or Huysmans. Both of them have opposing aesthetic positions about the so called «Golden Age» of Latin Literature. These positions decidedly condition their own view of literary History. Therefore, criticism and literary History will be indissolubly linked. It is precisely in this combination where Huysmans’ aesthetic judgement against Virgil acquires its real originality, since he can reinterpret «Decline» as a period of creative freedom in contrast to what had been so far the philosophy of the literary History. |
