| Abstract | Partindo da percepcao de que e inadmissivel conceber conceito de competitividade de um destino turistico sem relaciona-lo intrinsecamente ao conceito de sustentabilidade, o presente artigo analisa a sustentabilidade social como fator de competitividade de um destino turistico, fazendo uso do Compet&nible Model como forma de avaliacao, contudo com enfoque apenas na Subdimensao II do modelo (Sustentabilidade Social do Turismo). Nesse sentido, optou-se pelo Destino Natal enquanto objeto de estudo em razao do destaque obtido por ele no cenario competitivo nacional e internacional. Desse modo, constatou-se atraves da analise dos fatores determinantes propostos pelo modelo uma classificacao em um nivel passivel de melhorias, revelando uma condicao de sustentabilidade social moderada, mesmo diante de um positivo posicionamento competitivo do destino. Abstract: Nowadays, it is impossible does not think about the competitiveness tourism destination concept without relate it to the sustainability notion. In this sense, this research aims to analysis social sustainability as a competitive factor of a tourism destination, through the use of the Compet&nible Model as a form of assessment. However, in this study was studied just the second sub-dimension of that cited model, it means, social sustainability of tourism destinations. In this way, due to the obtained success in national and international tourism scenery by Natal (Capital of Rio Grande do Norte) that was the city choose to study. Thus, results found by the investigation of the main factors of social sustainability pointed out for the model seems that Natal have a large number of aspects to work into a better tourism destination than now, even though its highlighted positioning in the tourism market.
