| Abstract | The object-oriented paradigm has been used for some time now and this paradigm can be seen as one of the most relevant information systems paradigms today. There are several important concepts in this paradigm of which reuse is one of the most significant. This concept can make a great difference for information systems development compared with other concepts in other paradigms. Several researchers are of the opinion that there are many benefits like faster development and easier maintenance with object-oriented software reuse in information systems development. In the literature several problems with object-oriented software reuse are also presented like the rather political not invented here problem, and the difficulty to develop reusable components. However, there is still little comprehensive knowledge of the benefits and problems with object-oriented software reuse. The objective of the present paper is to present some information on benefits and problems with object-oriented software reuse. Further is presented some findings on experienced benefits and problems with object-oriented software reuse in middle size and large Finnish software companies.
