| Abstract | The main objective of this article is to estimate the cultural tourism potential in the eastern region of Turkey and to assess the real opportunities for its development. The research hypothesis is: eastern regions of Turkey are the perfect tourist destination for practicing many forms of cultural tourism. The article provides basic information about geography, history, politics and socio- economic situation of Turkey's eastern regions. The author describes selected values and tourist attractions that make up the unique and rich cultural heritage of the area. Moreover, the article presents the terminology of the specialized forms of travel: tramping tourism and backpacking. It also discusses the current state of cultural tourism in these areas and the prospects for its development. Conclusion is as follows: eastern regions of Turkey have a very large, yet only partially used, tourist potential in the development of cultural tourism. |
