| Abstract | GODOY, Thais Galhardo Growth features and phosphorous uptake efficiency of young plants of Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake. 2007. 44 p. Dissertation (Masters in Forest Engineering) Federal University of Lavras, Lavras, Minas Geraism Brazil.* The experiment was carried out in the nursery of the Carvovale Company, located in the city of Taiobeiras MG, where seedlings were produced through vegetative propagation, with the purpose of selecting superior genotypes for growth features in Eucalyptus urophylla seedlings, as well as for the efficiency of phosphorous uptake, correlating with the initial growth in height under field condition up to eight months of age. The experiment design in the nursery used entirely randomized blocks with eight clones, three repetitions and four plants per sample plot. The same design was used in the field with eight clones, four blocks and nine plants per sample plot. The data obtained at 120 days of age for growth features and phosphorous uptake were plant height in the field eight months after plantation (Hc); prop height (Hm); diameter at the stem base (Dc); diameter at the sprout base (Db); dry matter weight of above ground tissues (PMSPA); dry matter weight of the root system (PMSR); total dry matter (PMST); above ground and root system dry matter weight ratio (PMSPA/PMSR); Dickson quality index of the diameter at the prop base (IQDDc); Dickson quality index of the diameter at the sprout base (IQD-Db); concentration of phosphorous in the aerial part (CPPA); concentration of phosphorous in the root system (CPR); phosphorous content in the above ground tissues (CtPPA); phosphorous content in the root system (CtPR); total phosphorous content in the prop (CtPT); phosphorous efficiency uptake in the above ground tissues (EUP-PA); phosphorous efficiency uptake in the root system (EUP-R) and total phosphorous efficiency uptake (EUP-T). The analyses of variance showed that there were significant genetic differences among clones for all variables, and in the face of the high heritability, the estimated genetic gains were of great magnitude. The study of predicted indirect genetic gains showed that selection of seedlings in the nursery based on Dc, IQD-Dc, PMSPA/PMSR and for all EUP favoured higher values of indirect gains in plant heights in the field. Keys words: Eucalyptus urophylla, initial growth of props, efficiency of phosphorous uptake, genetic improvement. __________________ *Guidance Committee: Sebastião Carlos da Silva Rosado – UFLA (Adviser). rosiro |
