| Abstract | This study attempts to reconstruct vegetation and climate changes during the late Pleistocene and the Holocene in the southeastern region of Brazil. The research approach include the use of carbon isotopes (C and C) in soil organic matter (SOM) and palynological data of the mangrove ecosystem. Soil samples are located in an area of Atlantic slope forest, the “Restinga” forest and Sítio Grande mangrove from Ilha do Cardoso, São Paulo state. This work will also present a comparative study between the results of the coastal plain and in the continental area (Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho).
