| Abstract | A literatura sobre a gestao de negocios agricolas reconhece que o cooperativismo e a tecnologia sao fatores relevantes para a sobrevivencia e a competitividade da agricultura familiar. O presente artigo tem por objetivo estudar as interacoes entre esses dois fatores, assim como suas repercussoes sobre a gestao de sistemas de producao agricola familiar, tendo como referencia a cadeia do coco da regiao norte do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Ele se insere no âmbito de uma pesquisa realizada na Cooperativa Mista dos Produtores Rurais de Quissama (COOPQ). Os procedimentos metodologicos - utilizados na coleta, analise e interpretacao dos dados e informacoes - se enquadram no que se chama de diagnostico rural rapido (DRR), voltado para estudo de caso. Os resultados da pesquisa mostram que a adocao tecnologica e a organizacao cooperativista se influenciam mutuamente de maneira significativa e que suas interacoes geram impactos nao apenas economicos, mas tambem socioambientais. Por meio do exame desses dois fatores, o artigo fornece subsidios nao somente para estudos e praticas de gestao de negocios, mas ainda para a definicao e a reformulacao de politicas publicas no âmbito da agricultura familiar. TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION AND COOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT: A CASE STUDY IN FAMILY FARMING ABSTRACT The technical literature on agricultural business management recognizes that the cooperativism and the technology are relevant factors to the survival and competitiveness of family farming. This article aims to study the interactions between those two factors and their impact on the management of systems of family agricultural production, taking as a reference the chain of the coconut of the Northern Region of the State of Rio de Janeiro. It is part of the scope of a research carried out at the Mixed Cooperative of Rural Producers of Quissama (COOPQ). The methodological procedures – used in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data and information – fit in what is called rapid rural appraisal (RRA), which is focused on case study. The results of the research show that technological adoption and significantly influence each other and that their interactions cause not only economic impacts but also social and environmental impacts. By examining these two factors, this article provides subsidies not only for studies and practices of business management, but also for the definition and reformulation of public policies in the context of family farming.
