| Abstract | Reproduction is essential in every animal production exploitation that is why it is important to use techniques and tools that improve the reproductive parameters. Catosal is a metabolic stimulant with organic phosphorus (10%) and B12 vitamin (0.005 g/100 mL). It enhances the synthesis of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, which helps the corporal growth of the animal. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of Catosal in reproductive sows in the days to return to estrus after weaning, percentage of estrus presentation before seven days and pregnancy percentage at the first service. The study was done between May and July, 2015 at the educational pig farm of the Pan-American Agricultural School, Zamorano. 60 sows of the races Landrace, Yorkshire, Duroc and their crossbreeding were used among two treatments: Catosal, where the sows were injected intramuscularly with 10 mL, and control, where the sows were not injected. The variables considered were days of return to estrus after weaning (days), percentage of estrus before seven days (%) and pregnancy percentage at the first service (%). Differences among the treatments were not found for any of the variables. The average days for return to estrus after weaning was 5.53 days, the percentage of estrus before seven days was 90% and the iv pregnancy percentage at the first service was the 93% for treatment Catosal and 90% for treatment control. |
