| Abstract | This paper empirically examines the impact of corruption on the structure of government spending in three main sectors: education, health and public procurement. For this we use the three stage least square method on a group of countries of Latin America between 2000 and 2012. We show that corruption distorts the structure of public spending by reducing the portion spend of education and health while it increases the part dedicated to public procurement. However, corruption cannot determine this behavior by itself; there are other factors that influence the spending decisions. |
