| Abstract | La region des Aures, semi-aride, est riche en biodiversites. Les conditions climatiques (precipitations < 300 mm/an, des temperatures variant entre 11,5 et 33°C ) et la realite anthropique defavorables induisent une degradation du milieu physique provoquant la regression des forets. La superficie boisee a varie de 20700 en 1987 a 11648 ha en 2001. Cette etude utilise les images satellitaires pour la detection des changements d’occupation du sol et le suivi des processus de degradation dans la region Sud des Aures. Pour cela, il a ete utilise les images: Landsat ETM + de l’annee 2001 et TM 1987, de la region sud des Aures (Beni-Mloul, Dj.Mezbel et Dj Ahmar Khaddou), exposee aux phenomenes de la degradation caracterises par des especes endemiques. La demarche adoptee consiste a traiter des images satellitaires multi-dates par la methode de classification supervisee de Maximum vraisemblance pour visualiser les changements globaux d’occupation du sol. Les resultats obtenus des traitements des images satellitaires montrent bien que le couvert forestier, les parcours ainsi que les sols font l'objet d’une degradation tres avancee. Cette etude multi temporelle est un diagnostic qui a permis de determiner les phenomenes de degradation provoquant une regression du couvert vegetal et leur evolution entre 1987 et 2001. The semi-arid region of the Aures presents an undeniable diversity of flora and fauna; however, weather and adverse anthropogenic conditions caused degradation of the physical environment, which takes the form of a decline in he natural forest cover. The objective of this study is to determine the contribution of satellite images in detecting changes in land use and Monitoring of the degradation processes in the region south of the Aures. For this, we used images: Landsat ETM + for 2001 and TM 1987. These images cover the southern region of Aures which presents a landscape exposed to the phenomena of degradation including mountains of Beni-Mloul, Djebel Mezbel and Djebel Ahmar Khaddou forests characterized by endemic species. The approach is to treat multi-dates satellite imagery by the method of supervised classification of Maximum likelihood to see global changes of land use that have occurred in this area. This study is a multi temporal diagnosis, which has allowed us to both identify the degradation affecting vast semi-arid areas, causing regression of plant cover and also its development between 1987 and 2001.
