| Abstract | According to development critical periods definition, early childhood is considered one of the most sensible stage of development in all the life cycle. Prematurity is considered as an inherent risk factor, so when we talk about preterm or low birth weight infants, the vulnerability increases by placing this population in a high risk group. There is an extensive repertoire of research that scientifically supports the relevance of the primary link in the neurodevelopment and emotional development of preterm infants. This review article compiles and analyzes 22 studies about the relationship between prematurity, attachment and neurodevelopment and emotional development. The review concludes that the positive bond in neonates born preterm, allows the newborn to regulate his/her ability to cope with stress, which generally represents a better neurological and emotional development. Early binding interventions can serve as therapeutic and preventive tools. Current studies show that these axes should be considered high priority as the survival of the preterm infant is considered. |
