| Abstract | Studies about thunderstorms have a special importance in terms of the protection of human lives and material goods. Due to the lack of research on this meteorological phenomenon using past weather code records, the current work aims to determine the influence of this code in the calculation of the variables "frequency of occurrence of observations reporting thunderstorm" and "annual average days with thunderstorm reports", for the provinces of Havana, Artemisa and Mayabeque, in the period 2000 - 2016, according to the quality of the records. The second step is to obtain the spatial distribution of the analyzed variables in the selected area. The series of frequency of occurrence and days with thunderstorm associated with past and present weather codes were counted according to month of the year and time of day for every station. In order to evaluate the influence of the past weather code, several statistical tests were used to demonstrate the significant inequality of the variances and means of the samples under study (Snedecor-Fisher F-test, Student t-test, and the test of confidence intervals). It was obtained that the code contributes 3% to the frequency of occurrence and 25 days to the number of days. The spatial distribution of the variables under study shows an increase in the occurrence of the phenomenon from the coasts to the interior of the region. |
