| Abstract | The objectives of this study are to determine the time delay diagnosis of symptomatic pulmonary tuberculosis (and its various components: total delay time attributed to the patient, the doctor, the diagnosis process and the health system) and associated factors to this delay in adult patients. Methods: A prospective study interviewing elderly patients admitted to the Center for Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis of the Regional Hospital of Trujillo, diagnostic variables retardation and other associated factors such as epidemiological and clinical characteristics were investigated was made. Delay times are expressed as measures of central tendency and a univariate statistical analysis and multivariate for each of the components of the diagnostic delay analysis. Results: 47 patients with symptomatic pulmonary tuberculosis of which the mean age was 33.1 ± 14.7 years, predominantly male (59.6%) sex were included in the study Median total diagnostic time delay, the time attributed to the patient, medical and health system were respectively 40,25,5,6 and 11. It was found that the level of education, the presence of employment, fever and chest pain were statistically significant differences in the univariate analysis.
