| Abstract | This thesis aims to find out what kind of support measures there is to help children with autism develop social skills. Inclusion is also examined in the interventions that the social carer could apply to help support the social skills development in children with autism. I have limited the research to include only children within the autism spectrum and excluded other forms of autism including autism in connection with a mental disability. The questions for my research were: What is perceived as support for children with autism in the development of their social skills? and How is inclusion considered in the interventions that the social carer could use to promote the development of social skills in children with autism? To achieve results in this literature review, eight articles have been reviewed and systematically processed by using a contents analysis. Interventions that occur in my research are Social Stories, Peer-Mediated interventions, group interventions and Point-Of-View Video Modelling. Results show that the Point-Of-View Video Modelling is least effective as support in developing social skills in children with autism. Results also show that the other interventions may contribute in the development of social skills in children with autism. The interventions vary in taking inclusion into account. Inclusion is most taken into account in the Peer-Mediated interventions and least in the Point-Of-View Video Modelling. A common factor for these interventions is that they all aim to give children with autism knowledge of how to develop social skills. |
