| Abstract | Among the agronomic factors, the root knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp) is one of the worst constraints of the Parana State (Brazil) coffee crop. The race 5 of M. incognita described as Meloidogyne paranaensis due to its genetic and morphorogic differences and high occurrence frequency in Paraná State. This parasite can reduce the productivity at uneconomical levels already in the first production, in conditions of high population, in sandy soils as in loamy ones for highly susceptible cultivars such as the Mundo Novo, Catuaí and IAPAR-59. It is extremely appropriate the development of resistant cultivars to those parasites, because it is effective, economic and ecologically correct. The objective of this work is to obtain arabic coffee resistant or partially resistant cultivars to the Meloidogyne paranaensis. The experiment was conducted at greenhouse, in the randomized blocks design. The number of evaluated progenies was 69 in 3 replications, each plot constituted by 30 plants. The Duncan test at 5% was used for comparison among progeny averages to group according of parasitism levels. For each replication, the distribution of susceptible and resistant progenies was compared with the distribution of susceptible progeny to classify the progenies as susceptible, resistant homozigous or heterozigous. The analysis of variance indicated significantly at the 1% level. Twenty nine superior progenies were selected with significantly smaller levels of parasitism with high productivity and other favorable agronomic characteristics. The lineages progenies IAPARLN93500-3-19, 93500-3-21, 93500-3-6, 93500-3-01, 93179-4-38, 93179-3-26 and 93179-4-12 were classified as homozigous for resistance and superior in relation to other agronomic characteristics. They will be evaluated as experimental 1 Parcialmente financiado pelo Consórcio Brasileiro de P & D Café 2 Bolsista do FUNAPE/EMBRAPA Café 3 Pesquisador do IAPAR 4 Bolsista do PIBIC/CNPq/IAPAR Simpósio de Pesquisa dos Cafés do Brasil 541 cultivars in regional experiments, in highly infested areas with M. paranaensis. The 29 selected progenies will be tested for resistance to other races of M. incognita. |
