| Abstract | RESUMO: Publicado em 1637, o Discurso do metodo , de R. Descartes, de modo pioneiro, narra a trajetoria de um 'eu' como sujeito do conhecimento em busca do saber por meio do caminho, do metodo. No percurso, pensador, narrador, 'eu', individuo, sujeito e heroi se fundem, desse modo, a obra anuncia nao somente a moderna forma de pensamento baseada no individuo solitario como sujeito do conhecimento, tambem, prenuncia o nascimento do romance moderno e a aventura solitaria do heroi pelo mundo, sem as amarras e apoios da comunidade, da religiao, da tradicao e da autoridade, e em busca de valores autenticos e sentido para a vida. Todavia, na atualidade, o cartesianismo, a despeito de Descartes, deu lugar a proscricao do heroi desbravador e cedeu a determinacao das condutas, assim como a literatura e as ciencias humanas passaram a priorizar o caminho em detrimento do caminhante. Descartes, innovatively narrates the trajectory of an “I” as a being in search of knowledge through its way – the method. In this trajectory, thinker, narrator, “self”, subject, and hero all become one, and thus the work announces not only the modern way of thought based on the solitary individual as the subject of knowledge, but also prefigures the birth of the modern novel, the solitary adventure of the hero in the world, deprived of support from community, religion, tradition, authority, and in search of authentic values and meaning for life. Nevertheless, presently, in spite of Descartes, Cartesianism was supplanted by the proscription of the adventurous hero and bowed to the behavioral determination, in the same way that Literature and Human Sciences began to focus on the trajectory rather than the travelling subject.
