| Abstract | Objective: Determine the prevalence and factors associated with illicit drug use (marijuana + cocaine) among adolescent students in the city of Capanema, northeast Pará. Methods: This cross-sectional study consisted of information provided voluntarily by 479 adolescent students from high school, which met epidemiological questionnaires for description and analysis of social, demographic, economic and family related to the use of illicit drugs. Factors associated with illicit drug use were established using multiple and simple logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of students who have used illegal drugs (marijuana + cocaine) at least once in their lifetime was 23.4%. The prevalence of frequent use was 12.5%. Risk factors associated with drug use were: school failure, little parental involvement in school life of students, parents who do not talk about the use of drugs, use of illicit drugs by students, involvement in confl icts, bad nuclear family and parents / friends who use drugs. And, the day shift study was associated only to the frequent use of drugs. Conclusion: This study detected a high prevalence of illicit drug use ((marijuana + cocaine)) among adolescents in the municipality of Capanema. In addition, the study identifi ed factors associated with illicit drug use that may be used for targeting strategies for prevention of substance abuse.
