| Abstract | The urbanization of the Brazilian metropolinan regions produced complex, unequal and compartmented structures. Slopes and green areas were and are not properly used, resulting in environmental degradation and facilitating environmental hazards. The implementation of conservation policies asks for studies and zoning as a way to support the management and monitoring of such areas. The present study develops a vulnerability map to an urban park aiming its zoning and the establisment of a management plan for this area. The cartographic basis came from the digitalization of 13 map sheets in 1:1.000 scale of the Prefeitura Municipal de Porto Alegre, RS. Decision support modules of the IDRISI software (Clark University) were used to integrate the data. Variables like slopes, vegetation, distance to streets and trails and distance to buildings were used as factors for the establishment of a vulnerability map. The results showed that geograhical information systems are an excelent tool for environmental planning. |
