| Abstract | The present work had as objective to carry out a survey of the perception of residents of two neighborhoods of the city of Captain Poço about the urban afforestation. Despite the recognized importance of afforestation in urban areas, it is common to fail to plant or maintain these areas. The work was carried out in the municipality of Capitão Poço, which is located in the State of Pará, in the northeastern mesoregion of Pará, in the Guamá Microregion. The data collection was done through an interview with 15 residents living in two districts of the municipality in question. The application of semi-structured questionnaires containing questions about the advantages and disadvantages of having a tree on the sidewalk was done; who was responsible for planting; who is responsible for the maintenance / pruning, among others referring to urban afforestation. After collecting the information contained in the questionnaires, a database was built with the aid of Microsoft Excel Software 2013, which was also used to make the graphic elements. Of the advantages, 93% said they have trees on their sidewalks because of the shade they provide, and 7% said they have them because of improved air quality. Regarding the disadvantages, 53% reported as main the deterioration of the sidewalk and, 47% said that it is the excessive growth / electrical network. Of the interviewees, 40% were responsible for planting. Based on the data obtained, it was observed that most of the interviewees have a perception about the advantages and disadvantages of having trees in front of their houses, highlighting the shading as the main advantage and deterioration of the sidewalk as the main disadvantage. We conclude that this disadvantage pointed out by them was mainly due to the wrong choice of the implanted species, as is the case of those that have Ficus species on their sidewalk. We also conclude that there is a disregard of the municipal body for the periodic maintenance / pruning of these trees, where it is carried out in some parts of the city, failing to exercise in others. It was also noticed that there is a great deficit of arboreal species in the urban area of the municipality, where only 6 (six) could be counted in the two districts where the questionnaires were applied. In this way, it is necessary that there be more public policies aimed at urban afforestation planning in the municipality, improving not only the well-being of the population, but also the preservation of the environment. |
