| Abstract | We present the results of a benchmark of ground motion prediction in the valley of Grenoble, which was proposed during the 3rd symposium on the Effects of Surface Geology (ESG) on ground motion, held in Grenoble in 2006. 14 teams participated to the exercise, contributing a total of 18 predictions obtained from 1D non-linear (2), 2D linear (1), 2D non-linear (3), 3D linear (9) and empirical methods (3).We compare the different results using standard ground motion indicators as well as more sophisticated misfit criteria proposed by Anderson (2004) and Kristekova et al. (2006). We further compare the different estimations of the fundamental frequency of the valley and of the amplification factor and we discuss the importance of surface topography on ground motion.
