| Abstract | A Sindrome de Williams (SW) e um transtorno genetico caracterizado por habilidades sociais, verbais e de reconhecimento de faces relativamente preservadas, e habilidades visuoespaciais e numericas comprometidas. O presente estudo objetivou descrever, a partir de uma serie de casos, o desempenho de adolescentes com SW em tarefas de percepcao e memoria musical no contexto da avaliacao neuropsicologica. Participaram do estudo, cinco adolescentes portadores de SW, de ambos os sexos, com idades entre 15 e 19 anos. Os adolescentes apresentaram deficit intelectual moderado, prejuizo das habilidades visuoespaciais, numericas e de memoria de trabalho, com preservacao da memoria de curto-prazo fonologica e aspectos da linguagem. Os adolescentes obtiveram desempenho musical global comprometido, mas apresentaram variabilidade de resultados em componentes musicais especificos. A avaliacao musical no contexto da avaliacao neuropsicologica permite melhor caracterizar o perfil cognitivo em sindromes neuropsicologicas especificas, e oferece subsidios para o emprego orientado de estrategias musicais de reabilitacao. Musical cognition in adolescents with Williams syndrome: Analysis of a series of clinical cases Abstract: Williams Syndrome (WS) is a genetic disorder characterized by relatively preserved social verbal and recognition of faces abilities, despite impaired visuospatial and numerical skills. This study aimed to characterize, from a series of cases, the performance of adolescents with WS in perception and memory musical tasks within the neuropsychological assessment context. Five adolescents with WS, of both sexes and aged between 15 and 19 years participated of this study. The adolescents presented moderate intellectual deficit, impairment of visuospatial, numerical and working memory skills, and preserved short-term memory and phonological aspects of language. Considering musical cognition, the adolescents exhibited an impaired global musical performance. However, there was variability in their performance regarding the specific components of musical cognitive processing. Musical evaluation in the context of neuropsychological assessment besides allowing better characterize the cognitive profile in specific neuropsychological syndromes, it can offer subsidies for employment oriented musical rehabilitation strategies. https://doi.org/10.34018/2318-891X.4(2)47-55 |
