| Abstract | Introduction: In Brazil, the concern with Healthcare AssociatedInfections (HAI) has been growing since the 1990s. The monitoring ofinformation regarding HAI is extremely important since an increase ofthis type of infections has been noticed over time. Objective: To identify the main strategies used for the control of HAIin Brazil. Methods: Elaborated based on the documental analysis of the mainpolicies, standards and newsletters on HAI published in Brazil. Results: We identified five Brazilian normative documents in the last 20years, as well as specific documents of the Patient Safety website of theNational Agency of Sanitary Surveillance (ANVISA). These normativedocuments showed an advance in the last years regarding the effortsto control the HAI. However, there is still a shortage of studies on theresults evaluation of these actions. There are still barriers as financialsupport and availability of human and technological resources toachieve the legal framework of the area. Conclusions: Initiatives regarding the improvement of the surveillancesystem or the creation of a plan/policy in the area are stimuli that mustbe translated into concrete actions for a more effective control of HAIin Brazil. |
