Abstract	A economia do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul tem no agronegocio uma importante matriz geradora de empregos e renda, na zona rural e urbana. O objetivo deste estudo e avaliar a relacao existente entre os fatores de producao e o Valor Bruto da Producao dos estabelecimentos rurais. Essa analise pode se constituir como um dos pilares para o planejamento de politicas publicas voltadas a maximizacao do resultado economico da producao agropecuaria gaucha. Para tanto, a partir dos dados do Censo Agropecuario 2006, estimou-se uma funcao de producao do tipo Cobb-Douglas. Entre os resultados encontrados, destaca-se que o capital existente no interior dos estabelecimentos rurais e a variavel que explica a maior parte do Valor Bruto da Producao Agropecuaria. Tambem foi possivel observar que os retornos sao decrescentes a escala e que a produtividade media dos fatores nao e homogenea entre as microrregioes. Em funcao disso, o artigo aponta a necessidade de novas pesquisas e de politicas publicas capazes de contribuir com a modernizacao e o aumento da produtividade da agropecuaria gaucha. TITULO EM INGLES The agricultural production in Rio Grande do Sul: an econometric analysis Abstract The economy of the State of Rio Grande do Sul has in agribusiness an activity that drives the generation of jobs and income in rural and urban areas. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the factors of production and the Gross Production Value in rural establishments. This analysis may constitute one of the foundations for the planning of public policies aimed at maximizing the economic result of agricultural and livestock production in Rio Grande do Sul. In order to accomplish that, based on the 2006 Brazilian Census of Agriculture data, a Cobb-Douglas production function was estimated. Among the findings, it is noteworthy that the existing capital within the rural establishments is the variable that explains most of the Gross Value of Agriculture and Livestock Production. It was also possible to observe that the returns to scale are decreasing and that the average productivity of factors is not homogeneous among the microregions. As a result, the article points out the need for further research and public policies which contribute to the modernization and the increase in the productivity of agriculture and livestock in the State.
