Abstract	it presents a bibliographical review that describes the progress, achievements and expectations about patient safety, topic framed in the management of healthy institutions to improve the quality of its processes and services. Texts of authors experts in the field and valuable information from organizations such as The Ministry of Social Protection of the Republic and The Alliance for Patient Safety of the World Health Organization were reviewed. In the paper is mentioned and analyzed the most relevant topics that describe the work that was done, it is doing and it lack to be done in patient safety nationally and internationally.
