| Abstract | In this study, we report experimental results on the dynamics of a granular packing submitted to high-intensity focused ultrasound. Acoustic radiation pressure triggers remotely local rearrangements within the pile and can even induce large-scale flows. The observed fluidization process appears to be intermittent within a range of acoustic pressure, and hysteretic when pressure is cycled. Experimental results are qualitatively reproduced by numerical simulation and a simple heuristic model based on trap model.
