| Abstract | The purpose of water use grants is to adjust demands and availability and to ensure compliance with current and future water uses. The criteria for issuing water use grants are based on percentages of minimum flows observed during periods of drought (reference flows). Considering that seasonal availability and the use of less stringent criteria constitute alternatives that may enable better water use, the objective of the present study is to characterize the water use demands; quantify reference flow; assess the impact of using different licensing criteria for water availability; and to conduct a case study for the Entre Ribeiros river basin. To quantify the removal of water from the basin, the IGAM files were consulted, and regionalization of the reference flow was performed to quantify availability. The regionalized demands and flows obtained in annual and monthly bases were spatialized along the BHTCOMG and an analysis was done to assess the impact of the replacement of annual flows by monthly flows considering criteria based on the use of 30% of the annual and monthly Q7, 10 and 50% of annual and monthly Q7, 10 for each stretch of the hydrograph. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that changing the criteria from 30% to 50% of the annual Q7,10 promoted increases ranging from 5% to 170% in the percentage of stretches in which the sum of grants did not exceed the maximum discharge granted; using the criterion of 30% of the monthly Q7,10 resulted in increases of up to 209% of the percentage of the stretches looked at. |
