| Abstract | The thesis begins by identifying urban mobility problems in the city of Quito. On the basis of this situation, it is proposed to incorporate a private-operated bikesharing system as a non-motorized mode of transportation for the north-central part of the city. The system must fulfil quality parameters and guarantee the financial sustainability of the project. The design of the bike-sharing system has been done based on a comprehensive diagnosis, the analysis of the regulatory and legal framework, and the characterization of supply and demand of the market. It also includes the company structure proposal, the operational and administrative management strategies, as well as the financial analysis and the main parameters for the feasibility of the business model. The research contribution of this work relies on show casting how alternative mobility private initiatives can be a profitable business and at the same time can contribute to the welfare of the cities. At the same time, this thesis evidence why it is required to implement scientific analysis and research for business decision-making. |
