Abstract	In the last decades, in the educative area, there has been an increase in the interest regarding Emotional Intelligence, giving it such importance that it is compared to cognitive capacity. This research project is focused on adolescents who suffer from mild intellectual disability, and it studies the degree in which the development of emotional competences in this young people promotes their personal and social well-being, through the development of self-knowledge abilities, emotional control and/or social skills, which allow them to relate with the environment around them effectively and to confront different situations throughout life. In order to complete this research, an Emotional Intelligence Program for adolescents between ages 16 to 21 is proposed. There are a total of 18 pupils who suffer from mild intellectual disability who are in a specific school for special educational needs. The process that will be carried out is the evaluation of pupils before and after the implementation of the program to evaluate the changes of behavior, attitudes and values in students, and to check if the Emotional Intelligence development really contributes to improvements in the quality of adolescents’ lives. Taking into account all this we would like to highlight the importance of Emotional Education in the educative system and the need to include this formation in every pupil and level, even more in students with special educational needs, to compensate as much as possible with the adaptive and cognitive limitations
