| Abstract | The purpose of the present study was to test the psychometric properties of a brief version of the WHO-QOL in college students. Two studies were conducted. In the first study, a total of 446 students answered a 50 item version of the aforementioned instrument. Results showed an acceptable internal consistency; they also showed that, in general, the items discriminated between individuals with high or low quality of life. Results do not support the idea that the instrument has construct validity. In a second study, 669 students answered the brief version of the WHO-QOL; they also answered the SF-36, the BDI, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Results showed a positive and significant correlation between the WHO-QOL and the SF-36; and also negative and significant correlations between the WHO-QOL and the remaining tests. The second study suggests that the 42 item version of the WHO-QOL may possess concurrent and empirical validity; this, however, requires further proof. |
