| Abstract | The main objective of the investigation is to determine the differences in the pluvial behavior of the two geographical areas, coast and sierra, which comprise the Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad regions, located in northern Peru during the months January, February, And March (trimester JFM) according to variations in sea surface temperature (SST). Statistical models of seasonal climate prediction based on Canonical I CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL DE INGENIERÍA Y DIRECCIÓN DE PROYECTOS III CONGRESO REGIONAL IPMA – LATNET 286 Correlation Analysis (CCA) were developed using the Climate Predictability Tool (CPT). As predictors, SST are used in the central equatorial Pacific (Niño 3.4) and eastern (Niño 1+2); and as a predictand, the precipitation field of 41 meteorological stations located in the 4 regions mentioned, with quarterly records for the period 1971-2016. The CCA shows that on the coast the precipitation predicted by the SST observed in the Niño 1+2 region resembles that observed; While for the sierra the best correlation was obtained by the SST of the Niño 3.4 region. In both cases a correlation is obtained for precipitation in the region, which can be influenced by other atmospheric parameters. |
