| Abstract | This study aims is to show the effectiveness of reality counseling for improving adjustment of cadets. Reality counselingconsists of four stages, namely: Wants, Direction and doing, Evaluation and Planning and commitment. First, wants phasebuilt from all the expectations of individuals associated with current situation. Second, direction and doing phase consist of behavior that is already done.Third, the evaluation phase forevaluating the gap between the action that already been done with the actions that should be do for achievingtheir expectations. Last phase, planning and commitment is a plan to change the current action. The actionrelated to expectations will be achieved. The four stages are carried out in four days with one session each day, duration of each session is 3 hours. This experimental study using pretest-posttest control group design withten research subjects. Five subject grouped in control group and five subject grouped as experiment group. Characteristic of subject are: junior-level cadets at one officialboarding school in Medan which has a score lower adjustment. Data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney U test, this study shows that reality counseling is effective for improving adjustment of cadets (U=2,267 ; p<0,05). |
