| Abstract | Contribution to the study of diet of Cataglyphis bicolor is carried in the Great Cavallo island area in west of Jijel, The inventory of prey taxa found in the 5 harvested nests enabled us to identify 202 individuals divided in 2 classes, 6 orders, 14 families and 21 species. The most important class is that of Insects. Among the latter, Hymenoptera largely ranks first in the trophic menu of Cataglyphis bicolor with a frequency of 82.67% and occupy the largest proportion. The prey texa forming the diet of Cataglyphis bicolor are essentially Formicidae, among which the species that dominates the trophic menu of this ant is Cataglyphis bicolor herself with 26.73%. The analysis of the size of the prey taxa shows that the classes [10.4-17.8 [mm, and [17.8-25.2 [mm, are the most important in number of individuals. They are represented successively by 37.62% and 54.45%. The most represented species in these two classes are; Camponotus erigens, Camponotus sp, Cataglyphis bicolor. The diversity index of the species ingested by Cataglyphis bicolor is equal to 3.49 bits and the equilibrium value is 0.78. These results suggest that the diet of Cataglyphis bicolor is diversified, and that there is a certain balance between the prey taxa found in the trophic menu of Cataglyphis bicolor. |
