Abstract	En las universidades coexisten tres formas organizativas de caracter estructural donde se realizan actividades de investigacion y de innovacion tecnologica: el departamento docente, el centro de investigacion y el centro de estudios (CE). En este articulo se analiza brevemente el surgimiento de los Laboratorios Cientificos y Grupos de Trabajo Cientifico como antecedentes del surgimiento de los CE. Se analizan las principales caracteristicas de los CE, tales como su mision, objetivos, nivel de subordinacion, y su composicion multidisciplinaria, entre otros aspectos. ABSTRACT In the universities three organizing forms of structural character coexist where activities of investigation and technological innovation are realised: the educational department, the research center and the training center (TC). In this article one briefly analyzes the sprouting of the Scientific Laboratories and Scientific Work groups like antecedents of the sprouting of the TC. The main characteristics of the TC are analyzed, such as their mission, objectives, level of subordination, and its multidisciplinary composition, among others aspects.
