| Abstract | First, the concept of certification mark are examined by classifying the types of forest certification marks. Then, actors, elements and requirements involved in the process of forest certification and accreditation are discussed. After, forest management certification is contrasted with the certification of forest products based on the testing and / or technical tests to compare results certification of forest products based on the testing and / or technical tests to compare results with required standards. Later, the first attempts by the National Laboratory of Forest Products of the Universidad de Los Andes (LNPF-ULA, Venezuela) related to certification of forest products in its various specialized labs that are mentioned. Finally, we consider the possibility that the LNPF-ULA can manage an accreditation process becoming a forest product certification entity and regaining its role in everything that concerns the science and technology of wood and forest products as well as positioning itself as a fundamental player in the national forest system. |
