| Abstract | This paper investigates the causal relationship between economic growth and tourism development across the Spanish regions using monthly data of the industrial production index and nights spent by domestic and international tourist. We use the bootstrap panel Granger causality approach proposed by Emirmahmutoglu and Kose (2011) which accounts for cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity across regions. Empirical results reveal the existence of bidirectional causality, the domestic tourism being the main driving force behind them. The TLEG hypothesis finds support in internal regions while the EDTG hypothesis holds for the coastal ones |
