| Abstract | These are results reported from a research that aimed to propose a generic model of scientific information management for research institutions, based on the foundations of the scholarly communication and open access. From a methodological point of view, the study adopted a mixed approach comprised of the concurrent triangulation strategy, with data being collected by means of a literature analysis and a survey. The research sample for the survey consisted of researchers linked to two research units of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The main result of the investigation is a generic model of digital scientific information management for research institutes, which is presented in its both graphical and textual versions, and is based on the scholarly communication and open access approaches. In the model, input and output information flows are systematized by scientific information management processes, within the perspectives of scholarly communication and open access. In addition to its embed essential concepts, its structure also considers the research institute environment as a system composed of flexible elements in the model, represented by institutional and disciplinary specificities that vary according to the research institutes context. Moreover, the whole set of elements and the relations between them are under constant influence of external forces from the scientific community considered in a broad perspective. |
