| Abstract | This paper presents the sizing and techno-economic optimisation for autonomous photovoltaic/wind hybrid with battery storage. Two methods are examined to illustrate calculation of the relative contributions of photovoltaic and wind energy for stand alone hybrid system. Method 1 uses the annual average monthly values. In which the size of the PV panel and wind generator is derived from the yearly averaged monthly values of the component contributions. With method 2, the renewable components are sized with respect to the worst renewable months. For both methods, the required numbers of the PV panels and wind generators (WG) units for supplying the load is determined. The techno-economic optimisation of autonomous energy system taking into account the economic factor (system cost) which represents a criterion with not neglecting in the systems with renewable sources. In order to disclose the optimum techno-economic configuration, several combinations (varying the photovoltaic coverage of the load fraction) are examined for which the total cost is determined. In consequently, the optimum renewable configuration is then obtained for both methods. From the obtained results, it is also seen that there is an economically favourable trend to use PV rather than wind power in Adrar for both methods. The worst month's method presents a higher cost system compared to that of the yearly average monthly method. That is due to the reliability which presents the system deduced from this method.
