Abstract	O objetivo deste artigo e trabalhar e esclarecer os conceitos de civilizacao e cultura a partir das ideias de Norbert Elias, em: O processo civilizador , principalmente nos capitulos “Sociogenese da diferenca entre Kultur e Zivilization”, no emprego alemao, e “Sociogenese do conceito de Civilization na Franca”, e outros autores que trabalharam esse contexto. Devido a importância de tais termos, sera construido um paralelo entre os aspectos referentes a construcao desses conceitos, tanto por franceses quanto por alemaes, e a respectiva importância que tiveram seus significados na transicao da Idade Media para a Idade Moderna, no Ocidente Europeu. ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to work on and clarify the concepts of civilization and culture based on Norbert Elias’s ideas developed in The Civilizing Process , especially in the chapters "Sociogenesis of the Antithesis between Kultur and Zivilisation , in German Usage” and “Sociogenesis of the Concept of Civilization in France”. We will also discuss other authors who have dealt with this issue. Due to the importance of such terms, we will make a parallel between aspects concerning the construction of these concepts, both by the French and the Germans, and the respective importance of their meanings in the transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age in Western Europe.
