| Abstract | Abstract The dichotic listening performance of hemispherectomized patients and matched controls were compared. An initial analysis suggesting no substantive difference in the performance of these groups was abandoned when it was found that congenitally injured patients performed differently than infantile injured ones. Specifically the infantile injuries group recalled less material presented to that ear which was ipsilateral to their remaining hemisphere than did the congenitally injured patients. The results are interpreted as indicating that injury during the infantile period has a relatively permanent effect on the individual's capacity to use material dichotically presented to the ear ipsilateral to the uninjured hemisphere. |
